The Product

Tonk is building a paradigm shift technology. Our early product is a group workspace where you can sync files and collaboration tools directly between parties without the frictions or risks that come with a cloud platform. Today we accept the hassle of juggling logins, permissions, owners, and data across teams while navigating each others incompatible cloud platforms.

We don't have to accept this any longer:

• no more buried emails of a local doc's draft, final, and final_final because your local edits can simply sync across.
• no more "404 Not Found" of that thing you made 20 years ago because you always hold the data.
• no more begging the platform for this feature or that API because you have full control over the data.

The Vision

The internet today feels a little too much like a shopping mall where every business rents and every person is the product. We need alternative space; digital networks where you can live and work freely.

This problem will be getting worse now that AI is making software infinitely malleable. What's left of value will be your data, your connections — your digital life.

The team: multidisciplinary - we’ve started & exited successful startups, worked at the highest levels in the heart of Silicon Valley, graduated from world-class universities - but we’re creative, with a deep background in art, dance and theatre. We’re backed by world-class investors. Our deep backgrounds in cryptography & distributed systems, coupled with the wider AI revolution, positions Tonk exceptionally well in pursuit of its mission.

The role

You’ll level up faster than you ever thought possible - getting deep exposure to distributed systems, AI tooling, and cryptography in a way few junior roles can offer. You’ll work side by side with founders and senior engineers who’ll support your growth, push your thinking, and give you creative ownership early.

We don’t expect you to know everything on day one, but you can expect to:

• Work primarily in Typescript & Rust (but you may need to learn new languages as we go)
• Ideate new features and implement them end-to-end
• Build simple & beautiful frontends
• Take responsibility for smooth launches
• Improve performance & reliability
• Gather feedback and prioritise improvements
• Experiment with new ideas and technologies, contributing not just code but shaping how Tonk evolves in pursuit of its mission
